After a nearly fifteen year downturn in Onsen visitors, business is on the rise.  Due in part to the SARS virus and terrorism scares which caused Japanese tourists to travel more locally, more wealthy tourists are turning to Onsen vacations.  As a result, the construction of both pleasure and medicinal springs are on the rise, and the introduction of a new hybrid type is emerging.
